September 2017 Trip to Liberia
Dear Friends,
In 2006, our family had the privilege of adopting five sweet teenagers from the war-torn country of Liberia. During this season we made many friends and contacts who would remain in our lives for years to come. Through these friends we met a precious orphan named Faith. While visiting Faith in 2011, God made it clear to us we should bring this little girl home. However, by this time, international adoptions were no longer allowed by the government of Liberia. The journey to bring Faith home has consisted of years of exploring various legal paths and fervently praying for God's intercession.
Due to the recent Ebola outbreak in West Africa, a multitude of new orphans require care in Liberia. This situation has forced the country to reopen international adoptions, meaning our family has the divine opportunity to travel to Liberia and complete the adoption of thirteen- year-old Faith.
We rejoice over this incredible new chapter in Faith's story, but we continue to recognize that many other Liberian orphans face ongoing suffering. For this reason, we are excited to bring a vision-casting and storytelling team with us when we travel to bring Faith home. Many years of supporting various efforts and pursuing adoption in Liberia has lead our family to found a non- profit organization called Pepper Coast Ministries.
It is our goal during this trip to establish and sustain relationships with partners and friends who can help us develop sustainable efforts in their neighborhoods. We want to identify tangible ways to assist the people of Liberia, and capture vivid images and video that will help others understand these opportunities.
The outcomes of this trip will serve as a sound foundation for the genesis of Pepper Coast Ministries, and the stories we tell will be crucial in inspiring future support. Our departure is quickly approaching. Our team is in need of at least $35,000 by mid-August in order to cover travel and lodging for each member. We will be in country for 14 days during the month of September, visiting and learning from friends in the city of Monrovia. Any additional support raised will be used to aggregate the stories we capture and spread awareness of our goals in Liberia.
We ask that you would consider donating to this urgent mission, knowing your contribution will bring hope to a people that desperately needs the truth of the Gospel and the tangible aid of its messengers. Whether through paths like adoption, or through creating new economic opportunities, we believe in God’s faithfulness to redeem thousands of other stories, just like Faith’s story. Please help us in honoring this vision and join us in being the hands and feet of our compassionate God.
Sincerely,
The Ahlers Family
